Great Britain Olympic football squad member Craig Bellamy says a pre-Games talk from double gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes was an ?immense? experience. Great Britain?s Craig Bellamy is embracing the Olympic experience (Picture: PA) The men?s and women?s football squads visited the Olympic Village on Monday before they go up to Middlesbrough for warm-up games on Friday, and had a pep talk from Dame Kelly and Team GB deput chef de mission Sir Clive Woodward about what they can expect from the Olympic experience. ?She gave us a chat as to what to expect and about looking forward to these Olympics,? said Welshman Bellamy, one of the three permitted over-age players in the squad. ?It has been immense. Meeting the likes of Kelly Holmes is just incredible ? this week has been amazing not just for me but I?m sure for everyone else as well.? Bellamy said Dame Kelly had told the players to expect communal life in the athletes? village to be very different to what they were used to as professional footballers ? and he was thrilled by the prospect. ?There is a lot more going on,? he said. ?You have to be a lot more patient ? you eat with every single other athlete but it all adds to the experience. ?Her knowledge and her experience of being involved in the Olympics is just basically to enjoy it, embrace that. Go and speak to other athletes, go and introduce yourself, ask how they are and just be part of this Great Britain experience. This is something to cherish for the rest of my life.? Bellamy said the athlete he was most hoping to meet was Jamaican sprinter and triple gold medallist Usain Bolt. His fellow Welshman and team captain Ryan Giggs said he hoped to have a chance to talk to Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer. One person in the athletes? village who is sure to want to speak to Giggs is world 400m hurldes champion Dai Greene. Earlier this year, he said he put his strong take-off leg down to hours of practicing kicking with his left foot in emulation of his hero Giggs.
